Marketing Director Real Estate Development

Question: How do I get motivated at work when no one tells me what to do?
I am the Marketing Director for a real estate development. I kind of made my own position when they hired me. I basically do data base marketing and sales. I get paid regardless if a home sells so I find myself not being productive. I surf the net and I dont feel I accomplish to much anymore. How can I get excited about my job and get more work done. No one tells me what to do. I just do my own thing, hoping to get more sales for the company of course.
I know I could be doing much, much more. I feel as if I am getting paid to do nothing and I feel guilty about it .
Your answers have been great and each of you are correct in your advice. Thank you so much…
Answer: You must be self motivated to really succeed. Actually, you have a good situation, since no one is breathing down your neck all the time. Study marketing and branding and constantly find new ways to spread the word about your company, measure results against your activities, and adopt an “always get better” attitude. This is what takes you places – not someone telling you what to do all the time. It’s up to you to make it happen. Be proactive and good luck!
